I am trying to make a background image smoothly fade in when the class is added and fade out when the class is removed (to a div). So you will want to have two classes to seperate the static css properties from the animating ones. Unfortunately, anytime i use css background:url(), the image doesn't appear.

I like using jquery and its companion jquery ui but can not find a way to animate background image over a certain period of time like 5 seconds.
